Some Things to Think About

Backing Tracks

  • You provide your own backing tracks.

  • Feel free to ask me for any advice when choosing backings and/or repertoire!

  • I would recommend a mixture of piano accompaniment and band arrangements when picking your tracks - it's nice to hear your voice in a variety of contexts.

  • Be wary of YouTube. There's plenty of good tracks on there (try 'instrumental', 'karaoke' or 'accompaniment' alongside your song choice when searching)  but a lot of rubbish as well! You want your backings to be high quality; a naff backing track often leads to a naff vocal reel, no matter how sexy your voice sounds 💔

  • iTunes provide a surprisingly good selection of backing tracks, if you search 'karaoke' alongside your song. Alternatively, there are some great services out there who can provide and even create bespoke tracks specifically for you.

How Do I Work?

  • I record with a Shure SM7B microphone, in an acoustically treated studio space. I mix and master via Logic Pro X.

  • I have a quality home studio setup (address provided when you book in).

  • Adjustments can be made to the final products, for an additional £20. This charge is to cover the time spent re-editing.

Filmed Vocal Reels?

  • Due to space and staffing constraints, filmed vocal reels are not something offered at this time.

What to Bring

  • Backing tracks/headshot on a pen drive (or transfer them to me ahead of time via www.wetransfer.com).

  • Water - I do have a tap, bottle refills cost £5 (I'm joking, it's free).

  • Spotlight Number (if applicable) to be attached at the end of your video reel.

What to Sing

  • Four songs, two of which we'll record the whole way through. The other two we'll record a 30(ish) second cut, so have an idea of which section you want to sing before you arrive!

  • Choose contrasting material - two faster vibes, two ballads is a popular combo.

  • Cater to your skill set - if you're predominantly an MT performer, you'll want 2/3 MT tracks and maybe just one rock/pop/soul. If you're less musical-theatre-inclined, perhaps just sing one show tune. I would recommend at least one song from a musical, as it's an opportunity to showcase your 'storytelling through song' skills.

  • Only sing songs you know you can SMASH 💪🏻
